Dear Sydney,
You, my precious, crazy, demanding, adorable, loving, sassy, bossy and beautiful little girl, are FOUR years old today. Where did that time go? Just yesterday I remember cuddling you in my arms and not wanting to leave the comfort of the hospital bed. It meant precious time spent with just you.
To put into words the type of little girl you have become is not possible. You are bossy. Bossy to everyone around you. You are demanding. And an incredibly good drama queen. But, sweet girl, you have the biggest heart of anyone I know. You are so loving, and so kind. Sometimes the words that come out of your mouth blow me away. Just random 'I love you mommies' to telling others how sweet they are. You have a compassionate heart for animals, and are DEATHLY afraid of bugs. Any type. A fly, a tiny gnat, an ant... it doesn't matter. You scream and burst into tears until it's gone or dead.
To be your Mama has been one of the greatest gifts of my life. The past four years with you have been some of the most trying, demanding, overwhelming, heart swelling and hilarious years of my life.
I hope you always know that I love you. No matter how many times from now until you are 18 that I have to discipline you, I will always love you. I promise to be the best mom that I know how, and to always do my best to see that smile light up your face.
On this day little girl, know that Mama, Daddy and Austin love you beyond words.
Happy 4th Birthday, Princess.
Love, Mama

Letter to Sydney
To my beautiful Sydney Linn:
You are One today. It's such a bittersweet day for me as a Mom.
You were brought into this world a month early, with worried sick parents. Your birth story is definitely one for the books. But, just as you have proven to be, you were so perfect, in every way. I remember laying in the operating room, holding my breath, waiting for the first wail to come from your lungs. I've never heard such a glorious sound, never in my life. Tears flowed from my eyes when the nurses said you were as healthy as you could be. I know you weren't the first preemie baby ever born, nor will you be the last, but you were my preemie baby, and I was so scared.
In one year, you have completely changed my life. You have filled a hole that I didn't realize I had. You have brought smiles to my face, love to my heart, and joy to my life. You have such a sweet soul, happy giggles, and warming smiles. I can't imagine my life without you now.
It took you 11 months to finally start sleeping through the night. 11 months to crawl, and 11 months for you to let mommy put you down. And as much as I wanted you to sleep, as much as I wanted you to crawl, and as much as I wanted my time without you attached to my hip, I did love it. I loved having you need me, I loved the closeness we have because of it. I love the way you look at me, the way you won't take your eyes off of me once you spot me.
And now, I love that you crawl around the house looking for me if you hear me. You crawl right up to me feet and raise your arms and open and close your hands to tell me to pick you up. I love the way you wrap your arms around me, and squeeze so tight.
And also, you not only sleep through the night, but just yesterday, you slept until 2:10pm. You have turned out to be a wonderful sleeper. You take one great nap per day, sometimes two, although shorter. You go to bed between 7:30 and 9pm each night, and usually wake no earlier than 9am. You are definitely making up for 11 months of no sleeping. I won't lie, I'm okay with that!
You despise baby foods now, and haven't eaten any in about 3 weeks. You love everything I put in front of you. I don't think I've found a food yet that you don't promptly shovel right into your mouth. You LOVE LOVE LOVE pears, and would eat a whole can at one sitting if I'd let you. You hate drinking from sippy cups, and will only drink out of cups that have a straw. If I let you drink my water from a straw, you hardly ever swallow it because it's so cold. You just let it run right out of your mouth. You enjoy stealing food of your brothers plate when we're out eating, and that makes him mad.
You love our dog Petey. You don't mind his kisses, and especially love pulling his ears. You squeal with delight when he comes around to play by you. He's so gentle with you, even when you poke his eyes, pull his ears & tail. You think it's just the funniest thing.
You love love love your big brother too. Your whole face lights up when he comes into the room, and you squirm to get near him. He plays peek-a-boo with you, and you laugh so hard. I hope you two will be close, and love and respect each other throughout your lives.
You have also finally taken to daddy. For awhile you were such a mommy's girl that you wouldn't have anything to do with anyone but me. But now, now, you can't get enough. You laugh endlessly with him, and a lot of times give him kisses before you do me. When I walk down the stairs with you after nap time, and you see a glimpse of him, your whole face turns into one huge smile. You definitely have him wrapped around your finger, remember that, and take advantage! =)
At one year, you are in size 5 diapers, 12-18 month clothing, and have endless leg rolls. I am so okay with that, they are absolutely adorable. You are crawling, and pulling yourself up on anything that's larger than you are. You can say Mama, Dada, Bubba, Nana, and Dog. Other words that have escaped your mouth a couple times are Papa, and Book. You are not the chatterbox that your brother was at your age, as far as actual vocabulary goes, but you are very very vocal in your own little language. You babble a lot if the mood strikes you, and love hearing your own squeals. You also love smacking your lips, and think it's the cats meow when you do this while eating. You do a little scrunch face all the time while breathing heavy through your nose that always has everyone in stitches. You have 3 upper teeth, with 2 more coming in; and have 2 lower teeth with 2 more coming in there as well. You have had endless ear infections your first year of life, and the talk of tubes are in your future. You also love the show Barney and just realized by accident that you love Yo Gabba Gabba as well. (groan from mommy)
Anyways baby girl, I just wanted you to know all the things you have been doing your first year of life- I hope you will love looking back at these letters and reading about yourself as a child. Remember, you are beautiful. You are strong. I love you more than you know, and I will always, always be by your side. I will be your friend, but remember, that I'm your mom first and foremost. Sometimes you'll need tough love, even if you don't think so. But don't let that shadow my love for you.
You are an amazing little girl, and my life without you would not be the same. I love you beautiful girl, so so much.
I love you,
Mommy

She's 8 months. 8 MONTHS!
Dear Sydney,
Today is January 29, 2010, which means that you are 8 months old today. I really cannot believe it. I still feel like I should be laying you in the sun to rid you of your jaundice, or swiping your belly button with alcohol wipes.... that time has passed. And as exhausted as I was those first few weeks, I miss you being so tiny. SO tiny. You wore preemie clothing your first couple of weeks, and have now soared into 9 and 12 month clothing. I still can't get shoes on your feet, much to my dismay, but you know, it's okay. I adore those tiny chubby little feet you have. You giggle endlessly when I kiss them.
And while you are still very dependent on me, your independence is starting to break through. You try to sit up every chance you get, and want to play with your toys without our help. You are starting to want to grab the spoon when I feed you... but you can't quite master the spoon to mouth issue with the food intact. However, it's very amusing to watch you try. You have determination written all over your face, it's priceless.
You aren't crawling yet, but roll over constantly. When you are on your belly (which you don't like to be very much) you push your butt up in the air and bend your knees, so you're trying! You will get there soon! Mommy is very guilty if hindering your crawling abilities. I give into you non stop. You love to be held, and I indulge you in that constantly. I very rarely let you sit and cry, I just can't stand it. You are so pitiful when you cry that it breaks my heart. You know just how to get picked up too... just look at me with those big blue doe eyes and crrrryyyy, and here runs Mommy. As soon as I pick you up, you're done. You're happy. You silly girl.
You have mastered picking things up. You can pick any of your toys up, and pass them from hand to hand, of course, with a trip to the mouth in between. You love these plastic little fish that we have... supposedly for bath time, but you play with them all day long. Every now and then, something on TV will catch your attention, and you watch intently for a minute or so. You are just so curious; and I love watching you try to figure things out. I wish I knew what was going on in your brain when you are trying to figure out how to open a toy phone, or figure the dog out. What is that thing whining at me? Why does that thing make noises when I pull on this?
You smile constantly. Your happiest time is still morning right when you wake up. You are full of giggles and smiles; and no matter how tired I am, that's always my favorite part of the day with you. You are very ticklish on your back, and love when we "get" your thighs. You squeal with delight. Sometimes you bust up laughing at the most random sounds. If someone has been recording me, I'm sure they think I'm nuts for the silly noises I make at you. If one makes you laugh, I will do it for hours until you're worn out. Just hearing your giggle makes my day complete.
You also got your ears pierced right before Christmas. You were such a champ. You cried for all of 5 minutes... by the time I was done paying, you were just fine! You look so sweet with them! You don't even mind it when mommy cleans them, you sit there so still.
You have found the tops of your ears, your toes, and just recently your diaper. You haven't pulled it off yet, but you love touching it and grabbing at it, so I know it won't be long and I'll walk in to a naked baby. =) You have also found mommies hair, and get handfuls many times per day and pull and pull and pull. You are also catching on to waving. You watch us intently as we teach you, and eventually, one by one, your figers start working into waving.
Bath time is your all time favorite. You can be the fussiest you've ever been, and as soon as I stick you in the sink for your bath, you calm right down. You love playing with your fishes and duckies in the bath, and have a new found love of splashing. So when you get your bath each night, so does mommy. And the floor. And the counters. Everything around the sink is just soaked, it's so funny. And watching your reaction when you splash yourself in the face is hilarious.
You got your first double ear infection this month. You were running such a high fever that I took you to the doctor right away. I'm glad I did because your ears were infected. How miserable you must have been. You reacted badly to the antibiotics they gave you, so they ended up giving you a shot instead. That took care of it right away, and you started feeling better in no time.
You still are not sleeping through the night, and while I am utterly exhausted from sleepless nights, secretly I love the cuddle time we get each time you wake up. I think I might actually miss those couple hours each night.
You are still nursing, but also are eating solid foods. Your favorite by far is the sweet potatoes. You hate the applesauce, and are also not fond of the meat. I bought you "Biter Biscuits" yesterday for your teething, and you were in heaven. You were a complete mess, but you loved them!
Your vocabulary consists of "Dada", "Nana", and "Bubba." You have yet to say Mama, but I know you are saving the best for last. ;o)
You are such a joy, Sydney. You are so beautiful and so sweet. Your hugs and "kisses" melt my heart, and your smiles light up my day. The sound of your laughter sends my heart soaring. I couldn't have gotten any luckier with you. I love you baby!
Love,
Mommy

6 months
Sydney 6 months
11/29/2009
Sweet Sydney,
Today you are 6 months old. I can't believe how fast time is going, it seems like just yesterday you were born. Maybe because you are our last baby things seem more magnified to me, more intense, more bittersweet.
You have changed so much in the past few months, it's shocking to me. At 6 months, you can now roll over from your back to your belly. You can laugh, the sweetest laugh. You grunt when we tickle you, and your eyes light up at the sight of your big brother. You follow him with your eyes everywhere he goes. The way you look at him melts my heart. You love him, I can tell that already. You now sleep in your crib at night. Although you wake up multiple times per night still, you are still in there none the less. We are working on getting you down for naps, although you aren't too fond of sleeping more than a half hour at a time during the day. Every now and then you will surprise me, like the other day, you took a 3 hour nap and I think I checked on you 90 times to make sure you were okay. I've recently realized that you like to sit in your highchair and play with your toys. It gives mommy a break, since you are spoiled and like to be held constantly. I definitely indulge you in that though. I am very guilty. =) You talk your baby talk like crazy. I could sit here and listen to you babble and squeal all day long. It warms my heart to watch you, especially when you look up and realize Mommy is watching you and you smile so big.
You had your first Holiday. It was Thanksgiving. I'm kicking myself, I didn't get one picture of you. That will bug me forever I think. But you did great. You ate rice cereal mixed with carrots while we ate our dinner.
The day after Thanksgiving is when we put up our Christmas Tree. Your eyes lit up when you saw it, and you just stared. All the lights and shiny stuff on it, you really liked.
Sydney you are a constant joy to me. The way you look at me, the light in your eyes, your sweet laughs, your coo's. You are always making me smile. No amount of sleepless nights, or cries could make me love you any less. You are such an amazing baby girl. Even though it is so bittersweet to see you grow (so so fast), a part of me can't wait to watch your personality blossom, and to see the little girl, and soon to be woman you will be become. I am so proud of you, and I burst with joy when people tell me how adorable and sweet you are. Yeah, that's MY baby girl. You are so amazing!
At 6 months, you can:

At 6 months, you can:
- Roll over
- Laugh
- Babble non stop
- Follow everyone with your head and eyes
- Eat rice cereal mixed with baby food and water
- You've had Squash, Carrots, Applesauce, Bananas, Chocolate (shhh), Ranch Dressing, and Cool Whip
- Understand who Mama is, and cry when I leave your eyesight
- Play with your toys, and you're learning to rattle and shake them
- grab things within your reach... your hand eye coordination is improving
- jump like crazy in your Jump-a-Roo
- play with toys when I bathe you in the sink
- smack your lips when you see food that you want
- move your butt up and down when laying on your stomach, trying to figure out how to crawl.
- Smile responsively and giggle to silly noises that we make at you. Especially the Kissy noise, and the razzing noise. You think those are just so funny
There are many more things that make you who you are, but we'd be here all day =)
I love you sweet girl,
Mama

Time Flies
Sydney Linn is already 2 months old!!
Sydney,
You are such an amazing baby. You are so happy, and so smiley. You have brought so much joy into my life, I can't even begin to describe. I am amazed daily with you. It's the little things you do that tug at my heart strings. The little sideways smirk you get, the silly, noiseless giggle you have, the way you grab my fingers with your toes. You are just so sweet.
You have melted my heart, and daddy's heart as well. Your big brother is pretty fond of you as well. He often gives you kisses for no reason, and he always makes sure he kisses you good night. He's so good to you, you are very lucky to have him for a big brother.
At two months old, you already have incredible strength in your neck. You sit on mommy or daddy and hold your head up for a bit by yourself. Not too long though- or you turn into a bobble head. =) You are tracking people with your eyes. You know my smell. When you are fussy and I pick you up, you calm almost immediately. You also know my voice. When you hang out with Daddy when I go to the gym, as soon as I come home and start talking; even if you can't see me, you start wailing. Your hair is still dark brown, although lighter than when you were born, and growing! Your eyes are still blue, a very deep, beautiful blue. Your ears will be pierced within a few weeks of your 2 month shots, and momma can't wait. You soared through the preemie clothes, as well as your newborn clothes. You now wear 0-3 month clothing, and look soooooo darling in them. You have found your fists, and sometimes suck on them in between feedings. You take a pacifier, although gag yourself sometimes.... we think you choke on your tongue. Your legs are almost always moving. When laying on us, you "climb" up us. You also always grunt. It's amazing how loud you can get! Your lanky, skinny newborn body has been replaced with a full, adorably cute chubby body. Your cheeks go on for miles, and you have roll on top of roll. I'm happy to see that you still have your armpit wrinkles, I love those. As of right now, you don't think mommy nurses you enough. I think if I nursed you all day long, you still wouldn't be happy. You eat non-stop. Maybe that's why you have filled out so well. =)
And on that note, you are hungry.
Until next time, baby girl, I'll be loving you.
Love,
Mommy
